India and the life of Gandhi reveal David's strongest emotions and he found Ben Kingsley's portrayal in Richard Attenborough's film truly inspirational. I am in awe of the way he so selflessly sacrificed his life in the service of his people and his country". David visits India often and travels to Kerola at Christmas with his wife Kate and two friends, to work on reconstruction in this village which was so cruelly savaged by the Tsunami Disaster. "278 children were washed off the beach there," David reflects sadly "and I plan to make a documentary this time of the fine work being undertaken by HOPE, a charitable organisation I work for, which funds local people to travel overseas in support of children. My documentary is intended to promote HOPE's work and should generate funds and attract volunteers to become involved. I really get a buzz out of combining my holiday and leisure time with such a worthwhile charity."

As an ideal guest in his favourite pub, The Puzzle, near Halifax, David would choose to invite Tony Benn and over a bottle of red wine would delve further into the 'admirable views' of his 'personal, always non-political' opinions of asylum-seekers and refugees. "I love his caring perspective on life and would most like to learn his secret of how to keep the brain so active into later life".

David enjoys visiting art galleries and exhibitions; "I appreciate imaginative usages of colour, space and texture and the avant-garde Dean Clough galleries in Halifax draw me in on a regular basis".

Visiting folk-music festivals with Kate at weekends, in their VW Campervan, David unwinds happily among fellow creative free-thinkers.

At The Mill he most likes meeting people and values highly the charge he gets from exercising his strong senses of moral and social responsibility. To actually get paid for doing the best I can for staff, client and society at large is truly an ideal combination for me.
